Bridge when open


The Bridge when it is open after pulling a switch

This is what the bridge is going to look like when it is opened after grabing the switch and activating the bridge but on the design the brown bit of it which is on the middle won't be there meaning that the player will fall through the centre if the bridge is crossed while closed so this will make the game challeging for the player due to the fact he needs that switch before crossing.The bridge design was made using photoshop and using the pencil tool to pin point the right spot to put the points of the bridge because in the game the bridge is quite small so it is important that the shape and the design was the same on both sides of the bridge.

Level 2

 This level is set in the sewer which the player has to before proceeding has to find a level which will open the door and also turn a light on which will show the location of the door due to it being so dark down there. this level was made using the pencil tool to make the platforms and the bridge in the level and also the water colour was made using the blur tool mixing three different colours together and the water was made using the brush tool to give it a water feeling.

Daily Update

Today I was working on the next new level using the brush and pencil tools it's coming along well and I had some ideas which I am going to use in this level I should be finished soon which then I will carry on with the next level and the final level.

First level desgn (with no items)

This is my design for my first level we will use this as the first level on my game this is very basic because like other games people make the first level can't be hard but the level won't easy because the little platform which is by it's self will have an item which will be used to get to the next level or will have a lever which opens the door to the next level and this will be same for the next few levels but it will be hard with people trying to stop you while you are trying to get to the item or door to the next level.This level was made with the pencil tools only to just give me solid blocks.

Give feed back if you have an idea on what the next level should look like.

Design ideas

Today I feel like designing my backgrounds of the game because I don't really want to leave it for too long otherwise it won't get done but it won't take long because this will be a short game which will try and be 3-4 levels thats with a boss fight if able i'm not sure can anyone give suggestions????

Hal chaser/Thug design

Hal Chaser/Thug design???
This is an idea for the design of the anti-hero Hal chaser which be changed abit to make it more of the design for the thug because of the idea that I could make this design for the thugs in the game due to it being so basic. I made the body and some of the limbs by using the shapes tool in photoshop these tools gave me a template for what I wanted to do I then used the brush tool to make the character more rounded and to give him more of a shade to try and make it more complex but it kind of didn't work in the way that I wanted but i went and used the pencil tool in photoshop to fill in any mistakes i made when I was using the brush tool and I used the pencil tool when i was making the characters hat and when I was filling in his mounth and eyes, with the eyes I got the idea from my designs on minecraft where I put one dot of white for the outside of the eye and I put one black dot for the inside of the eye for the pupil which makes it look like an eye using bitmap.

First character designs

This is the first draft of a character for my game and I will change the design him differently later but for now this is the type of idea that I am going for with my character. The character I have designed here is the main character SGT. Greg James but this is only a rough design which I will revisit later. There will be more characters uploaded later.

This is just a closer look at the detail of the first design which isn't all that much but it was enough to actually make a character but what I would like to do is make him more solid as in not making him less pixel like and more like a platforming character.

These characters were quickly made using the brush tool which helped make the basic design and then I polished it off with the pencil tool.

Character design

I have started coming up with ideas for my character there were some problems in the design where the character looked like one of the guys from the old tetley tea adverts which I have fixed now so I hope I can finish the design soon.

Game Proposal

The game I intend to make is kind of like the old platformer type games which will have the player basically collecting things in the game and trying to get to the end of the level while avoiding trouble e.g. falling down holes.


The intended audience for my game would be people between the ages of 10-18 so that the age range isn't for people who are too old for games and isn't too young that the player doesn't know what they are doing so that they don't get the right feeling fromthe game when it is being tested.


The storyline of the game is going to be of a typical event in which a mafia group has taken over a town and it is up to the hero in this game (SGT. Greg James) is going after the mafia boss (Fat Tony) along the way he will meet one of the henchmen (Hal Chaser) for Fat Tony who goes and helps you take down Fat Tony but after going through the next level you take down Fat Tony but after he is taken down Hal Chaser betrays you and then you have to beat him but after beating Hal Chaser you gain control of the city again where you give back the city to Mayor Hagger.


The style of animation that will be used for my game will be comical and also kind of a fantasy type of animation Just like the old arcade games or the old super mario/Chuckie Egg.


The characters to be used within the game will be:
  • SGT. Greg James- A policeman who wheres the old fashioned policeman outfit with dark hair, blue jacket, black pants and balck shoes.
  • Hal Chaser- A henchman wearing a black suit like in the mafia, wheres the old fashioned mafia hat and instead shoes he wears trainers. 
  • Fat Tony- A big black suit,has a rose on his suit to show that he is the boss, black pants and black shoes but he will wear a gray hat to show he is in charge.
  • Mayor Hagger- Purple suit to show he is different from everyone else, black pants like everyone else, has brown hair,black shoes and hold an file in his hands.
  • Thug- Dressed like Hal chaser but these do not wear a hat to show that these are low level grunts
  • Police officer- Dressed like SGT. Greg James but they where black instead of blue and they wear a black police hat rather than Greg James because it is easier to tell them apart.


The backgrounds of the game will be:
  • Destroyed buildings, smoking building, buildings on fire- mostly shown at the same time to show the damage gangs have had on the city.
  • Sewer walls- for the level where the Greg James travels through the sewer
  • Town hall- when some henchman attacks the mayor and gang boss has taken over the city.
  • Police head quarters- start of game when the Greg James starts his fight to take back the city for the Mayor.
The actions of the objects will be:
  • Boxes- for moving to be able to reach otherwise impossible to reach ledges.
  • Key cards- So the player is able to move through the levels they will have to find key cards throughout the game.
  • Coins- Used in the game to buy upgrades for the player to make him able to jump higher or hit harder.
  • Levers- Activated to turn on lights or to lower bridges to get further through the levels.
  • Checkpoints- Certain parts of the levels, places the player back here if the player dies further on in the level.

The type of audio files which will be in the game is:
  • Explosions- background noise
  • Punch/kick- noises when player hits enemies
  • Screams- background noise, screams form enemies when defeated

Gunfire- shots from a gun usually in background.
